Smoking Policy at The Grace

We are pleased to provide a smoke-free environment for our patients, visitors and staff at The Grace. Recognizing that smoking is detrimental to health as well as a fire hazard, tobacco products are not sold at the hospital. Residents of our palliative care hospice are permitted to smoke in a specially ventilated room provided for this purpose.

Abuse is not Tolerated

Abuse of staff by patients or visitors is not tolerated.
Abuse of patients by staff or visitors is not tolerated.
Immediate action will be taken.

Do not use your Cellular Phone in the Hospital

Lap top computers and all personal community devices such as cellular phones and pagers are not permitted. These may interfere with the functioning of sensitive medical equipment.

Fire Drills to Keep us Safe

Fire drills are held regularly so that staff are always prepared to deal quickly and safely with a fire.  During a fire alarm, nursing staff will close patient doors and visitors should stay at the patient’s bedside or in the dayrooms until the “all clear” is announced.  For electrical and fire safety reasons, all patient-owned electrical items must be checked by maintenance staff before being used.

Infection Control

The Grace ensures that precautions are taken to prevent infections and if any occur, that they do not spread. Patients who may have an infection will be isolated and a sign marked “ISOLATION” will be posted on the door. Visitors are not allowed to enter until receiving confirmation from the nurse. Remember: Handwashing is the single most important way to limit infections, both in the hospital and the community.

Lost and Found

The Lost and Found is located in the Housekeeping Department on the ground floor.
Call (204) 837-0198. Items that are lost or left at the hospital after discharge are kept only for a limited time. For lost rings, watches and money, call the Finance Department at (204) 837-0110.

Security

Security officers are present in the hospital at all times. Do not bring valuables to the hospital and limit the money you keep at your bedside to less than $10. Do not bring jewellery, credit cards and other valuable items. If necessary, valuables may be taken to the Finance Department for safekeeping.

Protecting Patients who Wander

Patients who have a tendency to wander will wear a ROAM alert device and elevators will not move and doors will not open to ensure their safety.
