The Winnipeg West Rotary Club Memory Garden officially opened in September 2006. It is located on the grounds of Grace Hospital, directly behind the Grace Hospice. The Memory Garden was created as an enhancement to the Grace Hospice, the state-of-the-art, 12-bed palliative care facility completed on the grounds of Grace Hospital in 2004. The garden acts as a tranquil setting for residents of Grace Hospice and their families to enjoy the beauty of nature. It is a place of peace and reflection. In addition, it is a place for loved ones to memorialize their family members. Designed by Shelmerdine Ltd., the garden features wheel-chair accessible, paved walkways, benches and beautiful flora, including rose shrubs, lilac bushes and Fall Gold Ash Trees. The project was completed with help from the community. Barkman Concrete, Gillis Quarries Ltd, Maple Leaf Construction, Robinson Lighting Ltd, Playgrounds R Us and Shelmerdine Ltd all made major contributions to the garden. The Winnipeg West Rotary Club, for which the garden is named, made a major donation of $25,000 to support the construction process. The garden is open seasonally, and all are welcome.
